There are many ways to volunteer - whether it be helping
nurse baby animals, or just given a dog a walk - and there's
sure to be something for you!
Listed below are the many volunteer opportunities available
in this area, so please look through them!
Adopt
a Newborn:
Puppies and kittens under the age of 8-weeks are
now ready for foster homes. These precious little
babies need special attention, since they are too
young to fend for themselves. If you don’t
have the time to dedicate to this cause then please
encourage others to adopt, homes are desperately
needed! [Each volunteer must meet the basic criteria
set by this program.]
For
more information, please either contact the Humane
Society, or Animal
Services in your area.
COMING
SOON! Loose a Pound - Walk a Hound:
Thinking
about taking a walk each day? Well, why take a dog
along with you? This program is designed to help
dogs get people to walk them every day. The walk
will be done in a designated area, and the dog will
be transported in a van to the downtown area. This
also helps the pets get adopted because it is easier
when the dog knows how to behave - sit, walk and
listen to commands. For
more information, please contact the Humane Society
in Sarasota at 955-4131, or in Manatee at 747-8808.
Petsmart's
"Education & Adoption
Days":
Petsmart
is looking for volunteers willing to help out on
days when animals are brought in for adoption. On
“adoption
days" many pets are brought
in from the surrounding area to give them a better
chance of getting adopted. These days are held the
2nd & 4th Saturdays of the month in Sarasota,
and every 3rd Saturday in the Bradenton store. For
more information, please contact JoAnn Sampson at
(941) 753-0104.
ManaTEENs:
Volunteer
Services of Manatee County, Inc. sponsors several
programs to serve animals through this program (ManaTEENs).
ManaTEENs volunteer for animal service
organizations whenever the need arises and we ask
that all requests be sent to ManaTEENs@aol.com.

Pets
in Emergencies Guidebook:
Each
summer, ManaTEENs research kennels, hotels,
vets, etc. to compile a list of "pet
friendly" facilities in a
disaster. That guide is then distributed
FREE of charge to residents
of the Manatee County area.
PAWS
(Pet Awareness With Seniors):
Our
newest initiative to collect and deliver 10
lb. bags of dog and cat food to the homes
of senior pet owners who can't afford to adequately
feed themselves and their pets.
Pet
Emergency Shelter:
Since
the
American Red Cross can not accept pets in
evacuation shelters, ManaTEENs will care for
pets of people with special needs, seniors,
and emergency workers at the Volunteer Center
(5131 Manatee Avenue W) whenever an evacuation
shelter for people is opened.
